He thinks the perfect buyer is someone who “wants to live like there’s no one else around.”

In addition to acquiring a sustainable building, the buyer gets a rare Pikes Peak sight line, too. Botcherby explains that most houses don’t have that iconic view, because it’s often blocked by other structures.

“Normally with the rolling hills, you’re going to end up being tucked behind something where you don’t see it,” he says.

The main house was built in 1998 and was crafted with the Earthship style, which involves earth-filled tires as its main structural component. Architect Michael Reynolds popularized the environmentally friendly construction method.

“It’s really, really cool,” Botcherby says, noting that if you didn’t know about the quirky construction materials, you wouldn’t be able to tell. “It’s the first time I’ve ever listed [an Earthship]. It is crazy cool and so unique.”

The home is completely off grid, with a well, solar panels, backup generator, and emergency propane heating.

The seller “works from home, so there is good enough internet in the area for someone who wants to be a little more isolated,” Botcherby says.

In addition to a work-from-home setup, there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

“It’s got a very functional layout—the bedroom, kitchen, and living room are nicely laid out,” Botcherby says.

A sloping, earthen area helps to control the the home’s temperature, and the opposite side has plentiful natural light.

Outside, there are garden beds where vegetables can be grown year round. Botcherby notes that this area is on the home’s passive solar side, “so it’s almost like a greenhouse through there.”

Second home and trailer

About a year ago, the seller added a one-bedroom, manufactured home to the property. A travel trailer is also part of the deal.

As for the second home, “it’s more modern looking than the Earthship feel,” Botcherby says. “You have everything in both homes, so it’s completely separate living.”

He adds that a buyer could live in the manufactured home and rent out the Earthship for income. Those views would surely attract vacationers.
